Facts About Vaping & Smoking Related Disease

We all know it is true that millions of long-term smokers have developed diseases that have caused them to die early. At any one time when there are 20 smokers suffering from a smoking related disease, one person has died as a result of smoking. However, it is understood that these diseases and deaths are caused almost exclusively by inhaling smoke and not from the tobacco or nicotine themselves. Vaping products, commonly referred to as electronic cigarettes or e cigarettes, do not burn tobacco or do not combust, and so do not produce the smoke that causes smoking related diseases.

A recent video, published by the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association (CASAA), describes the facts related to vaping and how it affects smoking related diseases:

How is Vaping Good for the Population?

Many people choose vaping as an alternative to smoking because it can help people lead a healthier life. An electronic cigarette is often seen by many as a pleasurable and safer alternative. Vaping is also 95% less harmful than regular cigarettes. It allows you to obtain a clean source of nicotine without exposure to the toxic smoke that causes disease and death.

Additionally, there are no known harms from inhaling second hand vapour – this is particularly important for those who wish to vape but have young children.

Is Nicotine Dangerous?

Although nicotine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, there is no evidence to suggest that it can cause cancer. It is the by- products of combustion that cause cancer and other smoking related diseases, not nicotine.

But isn’t Nicotine Addictive?

Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT), such as nicotine patches and gum, is used by millions of people every day. A five year study by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration agency) revealed there to be no harmful effects of nicotine.

Overall there are loads of people worldwide that have been successful in quitting regular cigarettes since they started vaping, even if they didn’t initially plan on giving up completely.

The key takeaway of this video is for people to realise that vaping and the use of e cigarettes are less risky alternatives to the death and disease caused by smoking because they do not contain the by- products of combustion found in regular cigarettes.
